Custom Tape Artwork Requirements

For us to print your tape with the quality you expect, we need to start with good artwork. It is important to include all of the pieces necessary for us to do our job. Any missing fonts or graphics may result in a printing delay.

We are basically a Mac based art department. Plate layout is generated using Vector artwork created in Freehand or Adobe Illustrator. Please note that artwork created for use on the Internet is at too low a resolution to be used for printing plates. We generally need 300 dpi resolution or better.

Design Considerations

Most all printing and custom designs are meant to be viewed from only one direction, but tape on boxes may be read upside down also. If you are creating a design, try to keep it simple so it can easily be read from either side of the box. A simple design gets your message across quickly and easily, where a complicated design may lead to confusion or a disappointing message.

Camera Ready Artwork

Camera ready artwork must be a clean, black & white image on a slick or paper. We also accept business cards or company letterhead under some circumstances. Unfortunately, we cannot accept faxes or dark solid color backgrounds. We will do everything possible to match your font type as closely as possible from our extensive library. Any information that you can provide will help make your order go smoothly.

Computer Generated/Digital Art

Preferred application:

1 Freehand 10 or earlier

2. Adobe Illustrator Windows or Mac Version 9.0 or earlier.

Acceptable Applications:

Photoshop 7 or earlier. We don't recommend this product as it will not work for multi-color designs. For a single color design, please save it as a .tif file of 300 dpi resolution or higher.

Optional File Formats

If your artwork was not created in any of the listed applications, please send files as EPS or PDF. Please indicate all .tif formatted images and save all Photoshop files in the same .tif format.

Fonts

Convert text paths, curves, or outlines (vectors are text that becomes an object that can no longer be edited as text). This helps to ensure that "What you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG). If this is not possible, send any Macintosh compatible, Type 1 screen and printer fonts used only for the job at hand. We have a very extensive Adobe font library and will try to match yours the best we can.

To Submit Preliminary Artwork

If possible, please email your artwork and/or logo to our art department at: artdept@production-packaging.com. Please remember to also send an email in Adobe PDF with any special instructions. If you are sending artwork in a Zip disk or CD-ROM, please include a printed copy of the job with any special instructions.

Multi-color jobs require print separations to keep file integrity.

We reserve the right to reject any artwork that we don't feel we can print to our high standards.
